As many of you know, when I cap or even when I don't, I like to MOVE! I like my units to get there fast. You may have noticed that red is often the first off the line. Sometimes this results in my archers or other units being exposed. Although I can never understand how my archers can get so far out in front of their warrior guard. What are the faster warriors doing back there? But more often, the reverse is true. I arrive at the scene and catch the enemy with his pants down because he is dilly dallying around. Since this kind of movement tends to stretch units out into a long single-file line, there is one thing I do. Many players will form up 3 or 4 times on a south flank Desert CTF. This is IMHO a waste of time. I let them stay in that single file line, as long as they keep MOVING. When I get near to my destination, I call for a formation (2 or 8 depending on the circumstance) where the middle of the single file line is. This causes the front half to back up and the back half to catch up. This way, the units form up in half the time they would if you set the formation near the front of the single file line. And, you are there, in formation way before your teammates, who have nice and tidy marching, are. You are also possibly there before your enemy has had a chance to set up and figure out what is going on. My capping plans often revolve around disruption. It is an advantage when you totally mess up their plan and send the enemy into panic mode. All the while, you are still on your original plan and executing your strategy instead of reacting to theirs. This is when MOVE! is important. Blitzkrieg em and watch em try to react and figure out what to do. Meanwhile, your advance forces are mopping up as piecemeal counter attacks come at you. I discovered last night that 4 or 5 packs of gohls running around can REALLY screw with their heads. The gohls don't even need to attack. Just run close, then retreat. Mantra and another player (sorry I forgot who, but you rocked!) did a great job. All the while, others were cleaning up on the enemy main forces. It is probably evident that my favorite maps to captain on are Creep and Desert. It is almost impossible to form a cohesive plan against four enemies. Anybody that has ever been on my team on Carnage Terries knows this :) One little trick I am hoping to use soon. I read that the physics engine occaisionally surprises even Bungie. It seems a warrior or thrall can hit a dwarven bomb like a baseball. Got a thrall going against a dwarf? When that cocktail arcs in, have the thrall attack the ground right at his own feet. That axe is pretty big and with any luck, that cocktail will fly back at that dwarf. Homerun! I suspect my batting average will be around .005. But if I could do this once, I would be happy.
