Well another night spent logged into Bungie.net. After spending 5 minutes trying to get into the right room and another 10 minutes waiting for the #CP# game to open up, expectations were high. All in all I had a lot of fun last night and I wasn't let down. Three good games (two of which I was on the winning team) and a fourth that was a little more chaotic. Of course I was the captain for the chaotic game. There we were, Scruggler, Darklord, Mukow, and I (the only non #CP#), Faced against 13th Rat, Alien, Mantra, and Conner in a game of steal the bacon on Desert. We started closer to the ball and as a result would end up on defense. I had a simple plan, bring the ball to the hill, defend as long as possible, and then launch to waiting ghols in the south east. Problem was, I didn't communicate my wishes clear enough. Second mistake as captain was to control too many units myself. I had highly capable teammates, but I tried to give more controllable forces so they could focus on their tasks. Next time I'll be sure to share what those tasks are with them. We held against the initial assault of ghols on the flank and archers peppering our front line. The ghols broke through but were quickly cut down by our warriors on the hill. One ghol contested the ball but was blown apart by a dwarf on auto pilot. Too bad the ball was sitting on satchels, blowing it behind enemy lines to the south east. No problem, Darklord runs his ghols and recaptures the ball. Here is the problem, I also gave Darklord some thrall. He now needs to manage a battle of slow movers at the hill while running with the ball. As captain, I should have seen this and either taken the thrall or the ghols and let Darklord concentrate. I was too busy controlling my own troops, and as a result the ball got stuck and we were overrun. What did I learn from this? Trade better (I had limited archers), communicate better, and give out the majority or all the troops when playing with a large number of teammates. I can always take some back later ;-). I wasn't focused on the big picture and my team suffered as a result. But I did learn, so the game wasn't a loss in that sense. I'll captain again (the randomness of the #CP# games will see to that), I will apply what I learned, and will have a more enjoyable game win or lose.
