"Okvango" is my first attempt at map making. I have a background in geography and remote sensing. I was looking at several satellite images and thinking that they would look great as myth maps. I finally got off my butt and scanned in a satellite image and worked on making a map. That is right, "Okvango" is a real place and a real satellite picture (well other then having to limit image size and color pallete). I did not doctor the picture much at all, I just used the cloning stamp tool. But in all it took about 10 minutes to make the color map I am using here. The white "snow" effect, I created on some of the mountains are actually clouds that were in the satellite image (you can see a shadow sometimes around the "snow" cloud). I think the textures of the desert came out great, as for the green marsh area it looks good enough.
Okvango river is the creator of the world's largest inland delta. It ends in a 6,200 sq. mile alluvial sprawl that covers the Kalahari sands (Botswana, Africa)
I would like to thank the beta testers that help point out flaws in the map and other ideas. Thanks everyone on the now defunct +tfb+ (20 Eyed Foe, Derriz, Brass Monkey, Crom, Zero Effect and D) and the people from MgG
Of Course I would like to thank the Bungie Software company.
